PROGRAM NOTES Arcadia was the first piece for wind ensemble that I had ever thoroughly composed, and it was written at the end of my senior year of high school, right after the COVID-19 pandemic had begun. I have always been a fan of wind ensemble repertoire and wanted to write a dark and heavy piece to showcase the weight of the ensemble.
Five years later, I decided to take another look at the composition to create something more worthwhile. While the overall structure of the piece stayed the same, I added a lot more inner content, allowing the piece to truly express itself.
The darkness of the tonal center brings out the depth of each instrument and creates a melancholy effect. The numerous solos throughout the piece highlight different timbres and build up to several full-ensemble moments. PERFORMANCES
