AboutMaxwell Liber (Max) is a hornist, composer, and arts administrator from Libertyville, Illinois. He is a student at Boston University, where he is pursuing a Master of Music in Horn Performance. He graduated from Miami University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance & Music Composition; he also completed a co-major in Arts Management and a minor in Emerging Technologies in Business and Design (ETBD).
As a performer, Max has studied with Hazel Dean Davis, Molly Norcross, and Tom Sherwood. He has performed with numerous ensembles, including the New Philharmonia Orchestra, Boston International Symphony Orchestra, Boston Civic Symphony, and the New England Film Orchestra. Max’s summer experiences include interning at the Elgin Symphony Orchestra (2023), attending Kendall Betts Horn Camp (2024), and participating in the Monteux School & Music Festival (2025). As a composer, he has studied with Per Bloland, Phillip Roberts, Susanna Hancock, and Laura Harrison. He was awarded third place in the Hill Composition Prize and was one of three composers selected to write a new work for the Miami University Symphony Orchestra in 2024. He is affiliated with the International Horn Society, ASCAP, and Society of Composers, Inc., and is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa Psi. Max is deeply interested in both the artistic and administrative sides of orchestras. With experience as both a performer and composer, he approaches arts administration with a musician's perspective. His background helps him understand how to best support artists and shapes his approach to both artistic and operational work. He is particularly interested in bridging the gap between traditional orchestral repertoire and works by underrepresented composers, as well as expanding access to the arts to more communities. |
